British Airways PLC British Airways British Airway’s PLC is the largest international airline in the world. It is based at Heathrow airport in London, the busiest international airport in the world, and has a global flight net-work through such partners as USAir in the United States, Qantas in Australia, and TAT European airlines in France. Via its own operational and those of its alliance partners, British Airways serves 95 million passengers a year, using 441 airports in 86 countries and more than 1,000 planes. The principal activities of British Airways is the operation of international and domestic scheduled and charter air services for the carriage of passengers, freight and mail and the provision of ancillary services. The term British Airways was formed by the merger of it two predecessors namely------- (1) (BOAC)-----British Overseas Airways Corporation (2) (BEA)-----British European Airways These two operated as separate airlines previously, the new tattle â€Å"British Airways† commended in April 1974. The structure of BA consists of the many divisions under which British Airways operate. Its structure continues to under CO necessary changes, which BA regards as the way forward. Some of its structural changes go on to include operating in partnership with Subsidiaries, Franchisees, and Allied Airlines. These several components come together with British Airways to provide a more effective and smoother working of passenger services. Among these operating divisions, BA remains the major shareholder. However, in cases where BA has a minority share holding, these aircraft operate under the colours of their parent airline. This sharing agreement though successful, could sometimes make it difficult to recognise, who the true operator of a particular aircraft is. BA airways are a vast organisation, running fleets of aircrafts to Varying destinations. This calls for great formalisation of procedure; and CO-operation with subsidiaries, partners, and other bodies which form its structure. This section; British Airways structure has to do with leadership of this enormous concern. There are three Directors; seven executive directors; there is the leadership team which has to do with British Airways, marketing; flight operations; investments; and passenger safety, and interest. These plans and strategies are also being shaped by the removal of barriers to world trade though deregulation, and increasing access to new markets. These factors have brought about the strategies which are now shaping British Airways for the rears ahead. Firstly, a major cost saving Business Efficiency Programme has been underway for some time, which has enabled the airline to remain to profitable by delivering savings that are targeted to reach  £1bn per year by 2001. Secondly, product improvements have included the World Traveller re-launch in 1998 followed by a Club World upgrade including fully flat beds, and improvements to first class and Concorde, plus an on-going drive to improve the basic service standards which passengers expect, such as good punctuality and baggage delivery performance. The airline is also concentrating on attracting more high-yielding premium-fare passengers and operating the routes which maximise profitability. Other significant strategies include a major revision of the airline’s fleet plans and further development of its partnerships and alliances.

A Code of Ethics can be an overly complicated document that seeks to embrace every detail of behaviors that will not be acceptable to senior company management if found out. Meanwhile employees are pressured to deliver results which will often be enhanced if they do not strictly adhere to the Code of Ethics. The contention is that ethical codes are important to the organization; there is an ethical code, so the organization must be ethical. To the employee, it defines boundaries so they know when they are crossing them. Not all ethical codes are equal. If they protect employees from breaching some unwritten code, then they are good and fair. They must also be applied rigorously to senior management. It is normal for people who make rules to think that they should apply to others more than themselves, and that’s not a healthy way to look at it. As we have all learned, rules should apply to everyone for them to be just. If rules are made for only a certain group of people within an organization, the balance of power tips to one side unfairly and it leaves the organization and its consumers open to ethical breaches. One of the main problems with codes of ethics is that they may not be well constructed and not specifically address the companies specific needs and characteristics. Sometimes the standards in the code of ethics don’t clearly specify what an employee should do with certain challenges, and can sometimes put an employee in a dilemma abiding by the standards and suffering the consequences, or going against the code to get the job done. Many employees have indicated that codes of ethics are written with good intentions and convey good intentions, but most of the time they do not acknowledge the realities and practicalities of the business environment. Some codes of ethics can set the wrong tone and seem too vague or even too legalistic. Employees have stated that some codes of ethics seem to be protective of top management rather than the whole company, especially those at the lower levels. What I have noticed with some codes of ethics is that they do sound too legalistic and they leave a lot of the common sense topics out. Most codes of ethics do not include advertising, but most companies advertise in some way. Some codes of ethics are created with benchmarks of other companies codes of ethics. When this happens, an organizations code of ethics might sound and look great, but it doesn’t fit their specific purpose and doesn’t address some of the most important aspects of the organization. One Strength of the Code of Ethics. Psychologists are involved in the difficult area of human behavior. On a daily basis they are dealing with people whose view of the world has often been distorted by their history. They may begin to lose their own guideposts. The Code of Ethics is a reference that can be consulted to make sure the psychologist does not stray from a moderate behavior path. If it creates conflicts for the practitioner the relevant Ethics Code can be taken up with a supervisor allowing for discussion and interpretation. One Weakness of the Code of Ethics The Council of Representatives of the APA developed the code. Anytime you have a committee design something you are likely to complicate it. Each representative has their own world view and in a committee setting feel they have to contribute more. The weakness is that adding more detail rather than making issues clearer can make them ambiguous. There are Ten Commandments in the bible and 89 ethical standards set by the APA. One thing I saw and did not expect I did not expect that the Code would exclude application to practitioners outside of work activities. While legally the Code probably cannot be enforced outside of work, if the Code is silent on that point it would imply that this should be a personal code anyway. By stating that it does not apply outside of work it implies that practitioners have to be on their best behavior at work and not the way they might behave outside of work. This weakens the practice of the code. An example of when the code might be used. Standard 3 is a key Code in this line of work. As the patient has life issues their gratitude for help and verbal intimacy with the practitioner may lead to a relationship. The Code of Ethics is a reminder to not let this happen. While the Code of Ethics is restricted to work activities this area should apply if practitioner is in a work situation or not. Explanation of why the code would be used As in all occupations. ‘Do no harm’ must be the key ethical position. As the brain is a largely unknown organ, psychologists have to be very careful about their treatment of mental issues. Their patients are at various stages of walking towards a personal precipice, the practitioner cannot afford to give an accidental push. Code 3.08 covers exploitative relationships between practitioner and patient and is the most likely violation of code which must be reported. As patients are having trouble with their own reality a suggestion from the practitioner may be seen as ‘normal’ by the patient but not by the ethical code. There were many movements that have taken place in history that have made this country’s policy on freedom so unique; unique in how the citizens value their morals. An every day American would think that being with the same sex is not normal, or is frowned upon. Recent studies show that half of all Americans believe that gay men and lesbians have a constitutional right to marry (Craighill). Same-sex marriage has caused many conflicts around the country and even the world with multiple stand points. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, often referred to as Mormons, research their family history because of their strong faith in the eternal nature of families. Mormons believe that families can be together forever when sealed through a special temple ordinance, or ceremony.  These ceremonies can be performed not only for the living but also on behalf of ancestors who have previously died. For this reason, Mormons are encouraged to research their family history to identify their ancestors and learn more about their lives. Those deceased ancestors who did not previously receive their ordinances can be submitted for baptism and other temple work so that they might be saved and reunited with their family in the afterlife. The most common  saving ordinances are baptism, confirmation, endowment, and marriage sealing. In addition to temple ordinances, family history research also  fulfills for Mormons the last prophecy in the Old Testament: â€Å"And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers.† Knowing about one’s ancestors strengthens the connection between generations, both past and future. Controversy over Mormon Baptism of the Dead Public controversy over Mormon baptism of the dead has been in the media on multiple occasions. After Jewish genealogists discovered in the 1990s that 380,000 Holocaust survivors had been vicariously baptized into the Mormon faith, the Church put further guidelines in place to help prevent the baptism of non-family members, especially those of the Jewish faith. However, through either carelessness or pranks, names of non-Mormon ancestors continue to make their way into Mormon baptismal registers. To be submitted for temple ordinances, the individual must: have been deceased for at least one yearhave been born more than 110 years ago, unless permission has been received from the closest living relative (spouse, children, parents, siblings) The individuals submitted for temple work must also be related to the individual who has submitted them, although the churchs interpretation is very broad, including adoptive and foster family lines, and even possible ancestors. The Mormon Gift to Everyone Interested in Family History All genealogists, whether or not they are Mormon, benefit greatly from the strong emphasis that the LDS church places on family history. The LDS church has gone to tremendous lengths to preserve, index, catalog, and make available billions of genealogical records from all over the world. They share this information freely with everyone, not just church members, through the  Family History Library  in Salt Lake City, satellite  Family History Centers  around the world, and their  FamilySearch website  with its billions of transcribed and digitized records available for free family history research.

The Question Of Being: What It Is, Why It Matters. Martin Heidegger attempts to answer the question of Being by appealing to the terminology and methodology of Dasein, most commonly defined as existence. Dasein is not simply any kind of existence, however, but an existence that is unique from all other existences in that it asks the question of existence while existing in the existence itself. In other words, one must first understand Dasein in order to understand Being because Dasein is a kind of being that is concerned about its very Being. Contrary to the popular opinion that in order to truly and clearly comprehend any phenomenon, the subject which interrogates must necessarily stand outside of the object of the interrogation, Being cannot be understood from outside of Being. One may then argue that there is no outside of Being, a point to which we shall return later in this paper; therefore, every being is fit to address the the question of Being. Although every being is within Being itself, not every being asks the question of Being; hence Dasein alone can elucidate Being because Dasein is Being for Heidegger. It is a pure expression of Being and thus chosen to designate Being because its essence lies rather in the fact that is has always to be its Being as its own (54). Logically speaking, if the object of which Dasein interrogates is Being, and it accomplishes this task by interrogating itself, a being in Being, then the object of interrogation, Being, is precisely the subject which performs the act of interrogation, Dasein; it follows that Dasein is nothing but Being itself. Dasein answers the question of Being by disclosing Being through the revealing or unveiling of itself. In Being and Time, Heidegger articulates the way Dasein unveils itself by drawing a distinction between an existentiell and existential understanding of Dasein. By claiming that Dasein always understands itself in terms of its existence, in terms of its possibility to be itself or not to be itself (54), an existentiell understanding of Dasein is to denote the existence of Dasein as either realizing or ignoring its possibilities for being or not-being; an existential understanding of Dasein differs in that it neither realizes nor ignores its existences but inquires into its existence, the being of Dasein, Being itself. It is an existential analysis of Dasein that will reveal Dasein, and ultimately Being. An existential analysis of Dasein reveals that Dasein tends to understand its own Being in terms of that being to which it is essentially, continually, and most closely relatedthe world (58). That is to say, Dasein is to be found in its average everdayness because it is concealed in the same way that the meaning of Being is concealed. Heidegger maintains that in using the common word is, we no longer know what we mean. The subject-object logic which we use every day conceals the true meaning of what existence really is. Therefore, one must apply this reasoning to Dasein and find the essence of Dasein in the average everydayness by stripping away all that is arbitrary and accidental in the world. One unfolds the true form of average everydayness by identifying the world of Dasein, which is the human world, or more precisely, the soul. Heidegger characterizes Being as the totality of beings. He appeals to Aristotle and Thomas Aquinas to assert the transcendental quality of Being, which requires Being to lie beyond every possible generic determination of a being in its material contentthat are necessary attributes of every something (56). This entails that Being must allow for the coming together of all other beings. Heidegger finds this being in the human soul, the being whose nature it is to meet with all other beings (56). To further determine Dasein as a human-kind of being, one need only to ask the who which asks the question of Being. Man, or more accurately, the human soul is the essence of average everydayness. In What is Metaphysics, Heidegger locates the uncovering of Dasein in the attunement of anxiety.
